Hey there, I am a 21 year old male college student, I just got one this monday (01/18/10) wokeup with a red bump on my lip and knew what was coming. After working 24 hours this weekend I figured it was from being rundown and over working my body. At first sight, i put crest toothpaste on it (being a broke college student cant afford any medication, not like it even works) kept doing so all day while also icing the sore as much as possible. Monday night i took a sterilized needle, and popped all the individual sores. BE CAREFUL when doing this because u need to take a tissue and get the fluid immediatly when popping it otherwise it will leak and spread the virus. After popping EVERY SORE (if you miss any it will ruin the whole process) i took a q tip dabbed in nail polish remover and held it on there for about 30 seconds to a minute...burns like hell but to make these things go away id do ANYTHING. Continued putting nail polish remover on it for several minutes, then covered it in toothpaste before bed. Wokeup tuesday morning and it was covered with the yellow crusting scab after peeling off the toothpaste. Today it is wedsnesday, and the sore is a third of the size and its on its second round of scabbing. Im hoping before work tomorrow night the scab is compltely gone, but at worst very little and not half as noticeable as a disgusting bulging cold sore ( i am a bartender and it would ruin my night) Im telling you this process might be painful, but was very successful for me. What usually takes up to two weeks to compltely heal and disapear, is almost gone in 3 days! Good luck with your struggles, and remember although they are very embarassing and make you self consicous, 8 out of 10 people in the world have this virus and get a cold sore at one time or another.
