How to prevent and treat cold sores...?

That pretty much sums up my question. I know you can prevent a cold sore from getting too big by putting ice on it as soon as you feel it coming, but how can I avoid them all together?

Whenever I have a cold I during alot of orange juice and other citrus kind of juices so maybe that is causing them.. Would vitamin C be better in that case?

Well, currently, I have a cold sore myself. I was reading up on the subject and discovered that anything acidic needs to be avoided. I'm not sure why, but that's what the website said. Maybe I helped you out some. And about the ice thing, I just did that and I'm not sure if its going to work, but it's supposed to kill all the bacteria, disease, and virus, so we'll see how that goes....

    i have had so many, that i am an expert. anyway...what ever you do...DO NOT lick your lips at all. it will only make it worse! use a small dab of toothpaste and leave it on over night (don't lick it off) and in a day or two...it will go away. hope this helped!

    As you already know,cold sores are a virus and can be contagious. The virus can be spread from person to person by kissing or other close contact with sores or even from contact with apparently
    normal skin that is shedding the virus.

    The virus that causes cold sores cannot be cured. After you get infected, the virus stays in your body for the rest of your life. If you get cold sores often, treatment can reduce the number of cold sores you get and how severe they are.

    Here's a link to an ebook which may help you: http://tiny.cc/QLpuY

    In the ebook, a 27 year old man tells how he ended his cold sore outbreaks

    * without drugs
    * without creams
    * without expensive treatments

    It's worth a try.
