Right when u feel the tingle sensation warning u of an upcoming sore hold an ice cube on it. this will freeze it. Then put a hot tea bag on it. The tea is natural medicine for cold sores. I think it's the antioxidants in it or something. You could try putting any hot or cold compress on it too. I like to keep a warm washcloth on it. It will soften the blister. Honestly, abreva works the best. If you keep abreva on it it will heal faster. But you might try something cheaper like blistex or carmex. That might help. Just keep the sore "wet" by keeping blistex on it. Like I said I usually use abreva and it goes away within a couple days so I don't try blistex or carmex. Good luck! Hope these remedies help!

- peroxide is amazing it forces oxygen into the sore and promotes faster healing. and in the future if you feel one coming on keep putting peroxide on it or on a cotton swab and hold it there and it will stop it before it comes0% 0 Votes
- ahahhahahahahahahahhahahah..............… best way is not to touch it, i just got rid of a cold sore a few days ago and by not touching it, it only lasted about a week, b4 when i had one and touched it and i had it for over a month. clean it with a wash cloth and soap but try not to rub it to hard...................w/o any medications0% 0 Votes
- For over the counter meds, the thing that works best for me is taking L-Lysine supplements, and using Campho-Phenique (with drying action). This has worked better for me than any prescription and MUCH better than Abreva, which is about 5x more expensive.
To treat a sore without ANY medication (even OTC meds), wrap some ice in a paper towel and hold it on the sore until the entire ice cube melts. I've also heard that aloe can help with the pain, although it doesn't get rid of the sore.

- Blistex. There are many types out now, but the one in the white tube with the red stripe around the base of the tube is the best. I have used it for cat scratches, cold sores, and zits, it works very fast for me. If you do decide to use ice, never ever ever leave it on for more than 15 minutes. Doing so can kill the healthy skin cells surrounding the sore creating more of a problem than you started with, and it also slows blood flow, which keeps the nutrients needed to heal from getting to the area.
